Show Champion Detania Magnum Magnum didn't have a glittering puppycareer - everyone liked him but not quite enough - his favorite colour was yellow. He was 'retired' at 12 months to enjoy himself and mature. At 2 years old he came back to the showring at Paignton and gained second in Post Graduate and first in Limit under Terry Thorne. He won his first Reserve C.C. from Jackie Ransom at Bournemouth and his first C.C. came from Steve Richardson at Richmond.
He coasted quietly along for the remainder of 1992 - very rarely out of the 'rolling five' at Championship Shows and taking enough B.O.B. at open shows to keep Angela happy. He waited until June 1993 at Three Counties in the pouring rain to win his second Reserve C.C. from Rob Walsh and his second C.C. came from Pat Walsh at Leeds in July. His third C.C. followed in August at the Welsh Kennel Club from Ron Parkes and the icing on the cake was the accolade of Best of Breed. Magnum was a very special dog, a delightful companion without a mean bone in his body. Not always easy to show, because he has been known to yawn in judges faces when they were trying to animate him and made him use his ears. He has even been accused of falling asleep when judges were going over him. He met his first sheep in 1994 and that was a different story: he woke up and came alive! The shepherd made very nice noises about 'natural balance' and 'steady eye' and other wonderful jargonese.
At age 12, he was a delightful elderly gentleman, living in our house and getting spoiled. On friday 15th of November 2002 Magnum passed away, but will always be in our hearts. |
